We had a scarecrow competition on the allotment this autumn. It was a way to get families on the plots to create interesting things. They are all really varied and some rather scary.

During our Autumn Fair, the public voted on their favourite. It was a tie between the dalek and Doctor Who (Peter Davison era). Rather apt.

Below is a slideshow of the scarecrows or you go straight to the set on flickr.

Autumn Fair 2012 in Photos

Apologies for delay in publishing the photos from Autumn Fair. It was a wonderful day and thank you to all who attended and supported the day. Even though it was rainy towards the end, all had a great time. A special thanks to Brendan Lynch (from The Great British Bake Off) for baking a cake for raffle and speaking to all those who attended.

Fun Dog Show 2012 – In Pictures

On Sunday, 22nd July we held our second Fun Dog Show. The purpose was to allow local and not so local people to bring their dogs and enjoy a grand day out. Dogs took part in a not very competitive competition and we also had an agility display with rather clever and energetic dogs.

We also raised money for local animal charities that do fantastic work in assisting pets to get as much help as possible. Thank you to all who came.

Below is a slideshow of the day or you can go here to view photos.

Thanks to Ken Simpson for taking photos.

Gardeners’ World Live 2012 – Edible Patches

We have been invited back this year to take part in the Gardeners’ World Live Edible Patches project. In association with NSALG and the BDAC, Court Lane Allotments and other groups in the West Midlands have each created a bed with a particular ‘theme.’

Edible Patches are intended to inspire and educate you on how you can creatively incorporate an attractive and functioning plot into your own garden. Patches should be planted with edible plant material such as vegetables, fruits and herbs. The use of props and themes is also encouraged to create a visually exciting way of growing and displaying these items.

(Gardeners’ World Live website)

Members of Court Lane Allotments committee and other volunteers created a bed at last year’s Edible Patches and the overall display was awarded a RHS Silver Gilt medal.

Members of the public attending Gardeners’ World Live can say hello to us and vote for their favourite display. Modesty and fairness prevents us from telling you who to vote for. We shall leave that for your discerning tastes.

Below is few photos of the bed that we have created. You can view the full Flickr set here.

UPDATE: We are pleased to announce that we have again been awarded another RHS Silver Gilt medal this year. Here is a link of the planting plan. You can also download the recipe for our Allotment Vegetable Frittata. We are also delighted to add that we were voted the most popular Edible Patch by the visitors to Gardeners’ World Live and received a handsome vase from the RHS. Thank you to everyone who came to chat to us and voted. We really enjoyed sharing our garden with you.
