Court Lane’s very own Linda Shucksmith has once again won Best Plot in Birmingham at the Annual Allotments Show run by Birmingham and District Allotments Confederation. Take a look at the photographs and I am sure you will see why she has won it for three consecutive years. We are justifiably proud of her and other half Bob for all their hard work. This is an example of how a lot of hard work and dedication can reap rewards.
Court Lane Allotments is pleased to announce we will be holding our ever-popular Autumn Fair on Sunday 12th October 2014, between 11am and 3pm. There are many attractions to keep all the family busy, including:
ARTISAN FOOD & DRINK MARQUEE
CRAFT & GIFT STALLS
LOTS OF NEW STALLS & ATTRACTIONS
So come along to support us and our chosen charity
FRIENDS OF JOHN TAYLOR HOSPICE.
Please join us on Sunday 29th June at 2pm for a lovely Vintage Afternoon Tea with Music from Stage and Screen performed by Sutton Coldfield Community Choir.
This event sold out really quickly last year so don’t delay in getting your tickets. Tickets cost £7.50 per person and are available from the Court Lane Allotments shop at weekends (Open 11am – 3pm Saturday and Sunday) or from Julie by arrangement.
This year proceeds will go to North Birmingham Cats Protection.
See flyer below for further details.
You may have already heard that the Kingstanding Food Community Cafe is now open for business.
It is staffed by volunteers serving delicious, fresh, healthy lunches, cakes and beverages every Monday – Friday 11am till 2pm.
They are also holding their first “Open Weekend” on Saturday 31st May and Sunday !st June – 11am till 2pm, where you’ll be able to learn more about what’s happening over the Summer months.
Only days to go until our 2014 Spring Fair on Sunday May 11th. Opening times 11am until 3 pm.
After months of planning we are sure it is going to be our biggest and best ever event at Court Lane Allotments.
On the grass at the top of the site will be archery and a rifle range to test your sporting skills, or try your aim at football crazy & tin can alley.
The younger children will not be left out with face painting and glitter tattoos. Then let them tire themselves out on our bouncy castle.
There will be more craft and gift stalls than ever, with some familiar faces and some stallholders joining us for the first time.
In the centre of the site you can meet the chickens and come face to face with live honey bees ( weather permitting ).
Our own plant stall will be offering a selection of home grown vegetable plants for you to try your hand at growing your own, along with trays of popular bedding plants and shrubs.
Step inside the food & drinks marquee to find a mouth-watering array of local artisan produce, grab a seat and treat yourself to a slice of homemade cake and coffee, or try one of our fabulous hot British pork baps with a choice of trimmings (don’t leave it too late as these sell out very quickly).
Come along and have a great day out.
You will be helping us to support local charities like the Friends of John Taylor Hospice.
In 2013 Court Lane Allotments made donations of more than £1800 to local worthy causes.
We look forward to seeing you at the Spring Fair.
The end of March is the time that the growing season really starts to take off. Hopefully you all have your plots dug over ready for planting and your seed trays are already full to bursting.
This was sent to us recently and I thought I would re-post it here as it is just a bit of fun. See the link below.
Maybe we should have a weirdly shaped vegetable competition on site this year. What do you think?
Just to let everyone know – our site shop is now open again for the 2014 growing season*.
Do come along and equip yourself with gardening tools, compost, fertilisers, seeds and other gardening necessaries.
Our opening hours are on Saturdays and Sundays between 11-3. Parking is by the main marquee.
* A one-off £1 membership charge applies.
Court Lane Allotments would like to invite you to our annual Christmas Fair. It will be held on Sunday 8th December from 11am until 3pm. There are lots of craft, food & drink stalls to tempt you, plus a carol concert and of course we will have a free visit to Santa for children (under 16). Entry is free and we will even offer a complimentary mulled wine and mince pie to get you in the Christmas spirit. As usual we will be supporting John Taylor Hospice. Hope to see you there.
