Landshare

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has started a campaign where land can be shared so that people can grow their own fruit and vegetables.  This has huge possibilities and it would be interesting to know how allotments like Court Lane could be part of this scheme.

The premise behind Landshare is best described by Monsieur Fearnley-Whittingstall himself in the video below.

It would be interesting to get opinions on this from allotmenteers and see how, if at all possible, it can be incorporated at the plots.

If you wish to get more information then visit the Landshare site.

  • There’s also some discussion of this on my website including a contribution in the comments from the Channel 4 commissioning editor responsible for Landshare:

Read your blog Dave and the word is spreading on the plots about how best we can be involved in Landshare. The consensus with some of the allotmenteers so far is positive but unsure about the best way to implement it. I think this is where perhaps all Birmingham allotmenteers who want to get involved need to ask BCC how they are a going support people who want to take part.

Any updates will be posted on the blog and if you have time it would be great if you could visit and also us visit your plots.

    Thank you for the input.

  • I’ve already had a couple of people express interest in my own version of Landshare: ‘Daveshare’. In which I give a bit of my plot over to those who are willing to fight the huge overgrown-with-brambles bit at the back of my plot.

Love to visit you guys at some point. You have a great community up there – am envious!
